The elections were a disaster

May 9 came and went and at the end of it, a dictator's son was voted into the highest office in the land.

I was originally about to vote for Leody de Guzman and his PLM party members. Not that I thought they would win, being a Socialist candidate leading pro-labor and pro-environment reforms do not win you many friends in the power structures of the country. It was because I didn't really have faith in a political democracy that didn't have economic democracy to back it up. I might as well vote for the sake of my conscience.

But then a certain incredibly-powerful cult decided to support Marcos Jr. That shook me enough that my girlfriend was able to convince me to vote for the largest anti-Marcos candidate, Leni Robredo and her running mate, Francisco Pangilinan. My senatorial slate went largely unchanged, though.

That being said, Marcos Jr. isn't his father. He's not as charismatic as old Macoy. Thank goodness for that. However, he does carry his father's legacy and cult of personality with him. That, and his supermajority in the Upper and Lower houses are still terrifying.

This has all been a fucking mess. It's not looking like it's gonna get better anytime soon.
