Status update, August 2022

The past few weeks have been an absolute whirlwind. Here's my disjointed account of what's been going on in my life recently.

I quit my previous job

Let's be honest, I was rotting on the inside in that previous job. No, previous ,_industry Something had to break at the end, either my employment or myself. I chose to save myself and finally quit, and for good this time. I'm not going back to do customer service ever again. I admit I have learned a great deal during my time there, continued exposure to toxic and entitled people and be expected to be grateful for the chance to be of service to them is going to destroy my soul.

That assumes it hasn't already.

Spent a few weeks looking for a new job

That was back in May when I finally decided to jump ship from doing customer service entirely. The weeks from then and the date on this post were mostly spent looking for a job. Days spent sending my resume to one potential employer after another turned into weeks. And before i knew it three months have passed! I wouldn't say the experience was fun, seeing my savings tick down over time certainly wasn't

Overhaul of my memex project

Finally separated out the memex source code from the blog content

One of the pet peeves I've had on the old system was whenever I tried to tweak a function or two in the static site generator, it adds the code to the same git repository as the one for my ,_memex, and vice versa.

Something had to give. So i went and rewrote the basic functionality of the old static site generator. The biggest thing for me is that it works, and that it also frees me to add features as I wish, such as supporting ,_haunt-style skribe syntax format for writing posts! In fact, that's what this page is written in, and it allows me to freely intersperse some dynamic content that will get rendered at compile-time. It's pretty neat.

Got a developer job!!!

With my shotgun approach to job application, I finally landed on an employer that was willing to take a risk with a self-taught programmer shifting careers into software development, and even offered a dorm so i dont have to endure the three+ hours of travel from home to where their office was.

You know how in cyberpunk stories where corporations got so huge they also owned where their own workers sleep? I guess I'm getting a taste of that.

Going back to school??!!??

This did not go as planned.
