Android on Linux

Some notes regarding running Android on Devuan.

Install Virtual Box

Get the debian binary from here

Reboot.

Enable BIOS- or UEFI-level virtualization

Running on a second-hand HP workstation, I used this to enable virtualization.

Install Genymotion, create account

Genymotion ain't free software, but so is 90% of the apps on android.

Don't @ me, lol.

Download from here.

Fire up genymotion, sign in and install a new device.

Done

You should be good to go, though one thing I did notice is that the apps I needed to download all didn't work because they can detect that the the device its installed on is rooted. One didn't even install. That was a bummer.

2021-06-08 UPDATE

I came across this post on the Genymotion website about apps failing to install or being unable to find certain apps on the Play Store. It mentions ARM translation and how it won't work even with... Looked it up, ARM translation looked promising, and predictably, didn't work. The saga continues.

2021-07-05 UPDATE

I came across this while looking up how to directly emulate an ARM system directly, where I can hopefully install Android on.

It was linked from here saying that it had non-free blobs.
